The hottest shows on the US fall release schedule
The weather may be getting cooler, but it seems like fall is the hottest time for US TV premieres. Here’s the rundown of the shows we’re most looking forward to and when they’ll be airing stateside.
Fresh Off the Boat
When: 22 September
Word on the street: Eddie’s hero Shaquille O’Neal was spotted on set for the sitcom’s second season, and will guest star in episode three, which is titled “Shaquille O’Neal Motors”. We’re also told we can expect to see more of younger Huang brothers Evan and Emery, as well as a new business venture fro matriarch Jessica.
When: 23 September
Word on the street: This season will be 50% longer than the last, with 18 episodes instead of 12. That means there’s more space for a slew of amazing guest stars, including Marisa Tomei, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys, Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Ludacris, Pitbull, Lenny Kravitz, and Oprah.
When: 27 September
Word on the street: We were all devastated to learn that Captain Holt was leaving the precinct at the end of season two. However, in spite of his replacement as the Captain by newest cast member Bill Hader, we’re promised by showrunner Dan Goor that Holt isn’t necessarily gone forever.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
When: 29 September
Word on the street: Season 3 promises the introduction of many more Inhumans, including Lash, who will be played by former NFL player Matthew Willig. Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen has also hinted that the season will see ‘a very slow build’ towards the Secret Warriors; a team of superpowered agents assembled by Nick Fury.
Where: The CW
When: 6 October
Word on the street: Those of us sad to see the end of the villainous Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanadgh) in last season’s finale can be comforted by the knowledge that Wells will be back – or at least an alternate version of him will be – as season two will introduce the multiverse concept so prevalent to the comics, and the resultant separate world, ‘Earth 2’.
American Horror Story: Hotel
When: 7 October
Word on the street: Showrunner Ryan Murphy claims that this latest instalment of the anthology series is darker, bloodier, and grislier than the previous seasons. Considering the many nights’ sleep we lost after watching Asylum, we’re actually shaking in our boots. We also know that Hotel will cross over with Murder House, and, of course, we can’t resist checking in to see the inimitable Lady Gaga step up into the central role.
The Walking Dead
When: 11 October
Word on the street: Morgan (Lennie James) is set to play a much more central role in this season, as he is reunited with Rick. James said, “I can say that where Rick is and where Morgan is, they will find common grounds. But they will also be in conflict. That’s about as much as I can say”. Intriguing!
When: 12 October
Word on the street: Season 2 is out with the old and in with the… old, as a whole new cast including Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons will be thrown back into the 1970s, where they deal with the uneasiness of the Vietnam War and the rise of feminism.
Whew! With all that going on, make sure you clear your calendar, pull out the popcorn, and make yourself comfortable for a long fall hibernation in front of the gogglebox.
