Netflix has announced it is renewing The OA for a second season.
Just eight weeks after the supernatural series premiered on the streaming service, Netflix unveiled a teaser trailer for season two with the word ‘coming’.
The first series introduced Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling), a young woman who has been missing from her home for seven years. Once blind, Prairie has mysteriously regained her eyesight during her travels. She initially refuses to tell her family and the authorities about where she has been, but slowly she reveals an incredible story including abduction, transdimensional travels and her objective in returning home.
The OA first premiered in December 2016 with very little publicity and was an immediate hit with Netflix users and critics.
Clark Collins of Entertainment Weekly compared it favourably with Netflix superhit Stranger Things, writing: “If Stranger Things is an immediately yummy, nostalgia-inducing bowl of Count Chocula then The OA is a meal both fresher and more exotic, while still succeeding as a televisual page-turner.”
