Maisie Williams Will Return To Doctor Who
Maisie Williams will return to Doctor Who later this season in episode 9, writer Sarah Dollard has confirmed.
Dollard, who wrote episode 9 (Face the Raven) of the new series, was speaking at a panel at London Comic Con over the weekend. Referring to the announcement later on Twitter, Dollard said it had been “REALLY DIFFICULT not to tell everyone”.
Whovians first met Maisie’s character Ashildr in The Girl Who Died (episode 5), as a young and proud Viking girl. After sacrificing herself to win a battle against some of the universe’s most powerful alien warriors, the Doctor made her immortal to revive her. Ashildr appeared again in The Woman Who Lived (episode 6), as a part time fearless highwayman and part time Lady known as Me. After confronting the Doctor over his condemning her to a long and lonely existence, she resolved that she would follow the Doctor and look after all those he leaves behind in the future. The door was left very much open to a return, with the Doctor noticing Me in a photo on Clara’s phone.
Dollard was not the only one keeping tight-lipped about the surprise return. When asked whether she would return just last week, Williams claimed she didn’t know.
“I’m hoping she comes back,” she offered. “Everyone’s been asking if she comes back. I hope so, but I have no idea.
“I know they’ve had characters similar to Ashildr that have returned in future episodes and series, so we’ll see. I think there’s a good chance!”
Doctor Who airs Saturdays at 8.15pm on BBC One.
