Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams reacts to season 7 leaks
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is not happy with the season seven leaks.
In September last year, Reddit user awayforthelads leaked what appeared to be the entire plot of season seven online. The spoilers were posted on notorious Game of Thrones spoilers community Free Folk. While the spoilers were laughed at the time, set filming reports since seem to have confirmed their authenticity.
What’s even more troubling for the Game of Thrones production team is that these leaks have spurred more users to come forward, claiming to know details of the upcoming series.
Now Arya Stark actor Maisie Williams has spoken out about the leaks to the Radio Times, admitting what has happened “really, really upsets me”.
She said: “There’s only a certain group of people who’d look at that anyway, compared to the audience that watches the show.
“It hurts. It’s just like, ‘Oh we wanted to tell this story, and yeah, lots of people don’t want to read it, and don’t want to look at it’.”
Williams also addressed the speculation that the leaks were too detailed to be from anyone other than someone deeply involved in the production process.
“It’s even more annoying when you know (the leaks) might be from someone on the inside, and it’s just like… you’re trying to make something really cool, that is really cool, and people really like, and it’s like, ‘Stop ruining it’.
She continued: “It’s such a childish, annoying thing to do. And yeah, it’s sad. It really annoys me.
“I don’t know if that’s unexpected, that I’d be like ‘Oh, I don’t really mind!’ People still watch it, but it does really grind my gears.”
