Disney’s The Lodge is the highest rated new show on Disney Channel for four years
New Disney Channel television musical series The Lodge has secured the channel’s highest ratings for a new show in four years.
The series, which follows determined musical ingenue Skye as she rebuilds her family lodge, attracted 261,000 individuals when it launched on September 30. This number included 204,000 kids aged between 4 and 15, and 139,000 tween girls aged between 8 and 12.
The catchy musical numbers have been a particular hit for the new series, and true to form, theme song “Starting Over, Starting Now” has racked up 208,000 views on YouTube. Meanwhile, the show’s breakaway hit “Believe That” is a viral sensation, with 700,000 views on the DisneyMusicVevo and Disney Channel UK YouTube accounts.
That’s far from all, however. The Lodge-fever has also hit online and – fitting to the show’s embrace of the medium – social media. The programme information page for The Lodge on Disneychannel.co.uk currently has five times the number of visitors than all other shows. Meanwhile #TheLodge was the second most Tweeted about event during the series launch, and the show’s Instagram page now has 28,000 likes and comments.
In September, we spoke to series stars Sophie Simnett (Skye), Thomas Doherty (Sean) and Luke Newton (Ben) about the exciting new series and it’s on-point and clever depiction of social media on the show.
Simnett said: “What’s really great about The Lodge is there’s a heavy focus on social media and reality TV shows and it also shows the positive and the negative impacts.”
Newton added: “It shows the positives in [Skye’s] storyline with Josh and how easily they can stay in contact. Friendship can continue even though they live miles and miles apart. It’s nice to see the positives of social media and technology.
It seems that the focus on social media has certainly paid off for the series. Personally, we can’t wait to see what The Lodge has in store next!
