BBC give Gemma Collins spot on Celebrity MasterChef to make up for on-stage fall at Radio 1 Teen Awards
Gemma Collins is set to appear on BBC’s MasterChef, as compensation for her infamous, on-stage fall at the Radio 1 Teen Awards.
The Only Way Is Essex star was the talk of the night after falling through a trap door on stage at the Radio 1 Teen Awards last October.
The GC has since been in a legal dispute with the BBC over her injuries, offering only to back down if she was allowed to compete on Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking the morning after the fall, the Celebs Go Dating star said: “I’m in pain this morning I’m not going to lie. It could have been fatal.
“Under there was all machinery going on. I’ve got to apologise to the Love Island guys because I wiped them out.
“All will be forgiven with the BBC if they give me a slot on Strictly next year, then I’ll let bygones be bygones.”
Well, turns out Gemma’s got the next best thing and landed herself a spot on Celebrity MasterChef. Reports claim the reality TV star will appear on the popular cooking show, hosted by Gregg Wallace and John Torode, as compensation for the fall.
A TV source told The Sun: “After the incident it didn’t look as though Gemma would ever work with the BBC again, but there has been some peace-making behind the scenes.
“Initially she was determined that only Strictly Come Dancing would do, but she’s excited about the prospect of MasterChef and it has very much cooled the tension.
“Everyone is looking forward to having her on. She’s a great character and popular with viewers – she’ll bring something very different to the series.”
MasterChef continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
The Only Way Is Essex returns this month to ITVBe.
