Anastacia joins Strictly Come Dancing
Pop singer Anastacia is the latest act to join Strictly Come Dancing 2016.
The American music sensation broke the news this morning on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, and said she “can’t wait to get started”.
Anastacia famously sang on series thirteen of the ballroom dancing show last year, and admitted “the seed was planted” by her earlier appearance.
The ‘I’m Outta Love’ singer shot to fame in the early 2000s, with albums Not That Kind (2000) and Freak of Nature (2001). After a break from the music industry to overcome cancer, Anastacia returned to the limelight in 2004 with smash hit ‘Left Outside Alone’ followed by a self-titled album. It became Europe’s second top-selling album of the year. In 2006 she released a greatest hits album, titled Pieces of a Dream, and later went on hiatus.
She made a second comeback in 2014 with sixth studio album Resurrection, which reached number 9 on the album charts in the UK.
However, Anastacia believes her dancing skills are not up to scratch, admitting she told Strictly producers: “I stink – do you really want me on the show?”
“I’m not lying about it at all. I just finished 62 dates on tour so I’m really good at rhythm and sidestepping – as far as to my own music. But… uh oh.”
Nonetheless, Anastacia is excited to get started. Speaking to the Strictly website, she said: “I have always been a fan of this TV show and admired each contestant year after year… I have seen many people have a positive experience on this show.””
Anastacia will join Naga Munchetty, Ed Balls, Daisy Lowe, Danny Mac, Melvin Odoom, Louise Redknapp, Will Young, Ore Oduba and Laura Whitmore on the show.
